Caregiving
Workers can use their Earned Sick Leave or take Family Leave Insurance to care for a seriously ill loved one. The difference is usually the duration of the caregiving needs. If it’s short term you usually Earned Sick Leave and your employer pays you directly for long-term leave, you use Family Leave Insurance and you apply to receive benefits from the state.

Caregiving is essential to our economy and the livelihoods of our families, from learning how to care for a newborn to caring for our aging loved or disabled community members. We all have people we love whom we would do anything for. We’ve made promises to those people, like being there for them when they need us most.
